OKLAHOMA CITY, March 16 -- The Oklahoma Attorney General issued the following news release:
A Broken Arrow man faces allegations of deceptive trade practices for allegedly scamming more than $75,000 from hunters through Internet and magazine advertisements, Attorney General E. Scott Pruitt said.
James Adam Jenkins of Broken Arrow was arrested Tuesday after being charged in Tulsa County District Court with three counts of unfair or deceptive trade practice in violation of the Oklahoma Consumer Protection Act.
The state alleges Jenkins solicited money over the Internet and in magazines from at least three hunters to schedule, outfit and lead deer, elk and quail hunts in western Oklahoma and Colorado. Several hunters from Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri and Texas filed complaints against Jenkins alleging he accepted their money and then cancelled the hunts without refunds. According to the state's complaint, Jenkins also does not have leases or permission to hunt the land included in the advertisement.
Pruitt said the investigation continues into a considerable number of other complaints with the possibility of additional felony charges being filed.
Pruitt's Public Protection Unit has statewide jurisdiction to investigate and prosecute violations of the state's Consumer Protection Act. Anyone with information on suspected fraud or scams can call the Attorney General's Public Protection Unit at (405) 521-2029 or file a complaint online at www.oag.ok.gov.
