FED: Howard says little chance of more federal Olympic money

Prime Minister JOHN HOWARD says there's little chance the federal government will give more
money to the Sydney Olympic Games if the games run into trouble because of sponsorship
problems.

Mr HOWARD was asked on Melbourne radio station 3AW whether the federal government might
help given that the games are still $200 million short and some sponsors appear nervous.

But the prime minister says the Commonwealth has already given very generously.

He says it's a little premature to be saying there is a serious threat to sponsorship.

Mr HOWARD says recent publicity has been bad but preparations for the 2000 Sydney games are
excellent.
