Fed: Beware new GST scam warns Tax Office

CANBERRA, Feb 21 AAP - Businesses were today warned to beware of a new tax scam by
bogus operators charging $350 to fill out Australian Business Number registration forms
(ABN).

Tax Commissioner Michael Carmody said those involved in the scam were claiming to be
from the Australian Taxation Office.

"There is no charge for applying an ABN and the Tax Office does not charge for any
advice or assistance to business," Mr Carmody said.
