Fed: Anderson says preferences issue resolved before fed poll

CANBERRA, Feb 19 AAP - Deputy Prime Minister John Anderson today said the National
Party would have the preferences issue resolved before the federal election was called.

Disunity over preferences was among the factors blamed for the party's rout in Saturday's
Queensland election.

Some Queensland Coalition members rejected leader Rob Borbidge's call to put One Nation
last on how-to-vote cards and instead did preference deals with Pauline Hanson's party.

However, Mr Anderson said he was not expecting the same rebellion federally.

"I think the issue there was that a lot of people felt it was unfortunate that it happened
during the campaign," he told Channel Nine.

"We will resolve which way and how we are going to handle this issue long before the
federal campaign."

Despite Mr Anderson's position, a number of Queensland federal National Party members
indicated that they planned to go against the leadership's call to put One Nation last
on how-to-vote cards.
